Thumb or Elbow?: The ulnar collateral ligament (ucl)  is a primary stabilizer to one of your thumb joints. It provides stability to the thumb when you pinch something between your thumb and index finger.  It is injured when the thumb is bent backwards and outwards. It is unlikely that you injured the actual flexor tendon to the thumb but rather the insertion of some thumb muscles that attach near the ucl.

6-8 weeks healing: Is typical for an injury in that part of your elbow along with physical therapy and relative rest. If you are a thrower, gymnast or actively put a great deal of repetitive stress on your elbow surgery might be recommended after conservative treatment. Full thickness tears in the above populations often need surgery

Cast or surgery: Please seek evaluation and treatment from a board certified orthopedic surgeon.  This injury might be treatable with immobilization in a cast or it might need surgical repair.

Experience counts.: It goes without saying that every patient's condition should be evaluated before applying general rules, but, if the laceration is distal (toward the toes)  to the knot of Henry, then surgical repair is probably best. Find an experienced surgeon.

Depends: Depends somewhat based upon your problem.  If it is only the label tear itself, then a repair would be sufficient.  He seems to think you also have some pathology if the hip flexor itself, which very well may be the case.

Depends: Many peroneal tears can be treated with rest, bracing or other forms of temporary immobilization plus a rehabilitation program. Surgery can be utilized if you fail conservative care. The lack of visualization of the anterior talofibular ligament means that the MRI slices were not thin enough to capture it or it has likely been injured in the past. Many function well with an abnormal atfl on mri.

is it normal to have altered sensation after a flexor tendon repair injury?

Yes: Anytime you have surgery it is likely and common that sensation is different because the nerves that determine sensation are sometimes cut or irritated during surgery - this is normal and not because the surgery was done badly. You almost always have some very small nerve fibers effected. Sometimes the sensation recovers fully, but sometimes not. Nerves take weeks to months to heal.

i had flexor tendon surgery last week and my stiches are starting too look crusty and dis colored what does that mean ?

Varies: There is some degree of drainage that can normally occur after surgery which can discolor the sutures and make them appear crusty.  If you have concerns I would contact your surgeon and arrange a follow up appointment.

: Tendon transfer surgery is fairly well established and is used in many circumstances these days. It can be used to repair some flexor tendons. You should talk to your surgeon about the chances of a good outcome in your situation, and consider a second opinion if you still have further questions. Good luck.
