Accepted Answer

Should not.: Ultrasound depends on the physician ability to perform the procedure, a well trained ultrasonographist should be able to recognize whatever abnormal finding, their ability plus the clinical history should be enough to take all the precautions to avoid any problem, however, if they are not satisfied with the results they will order some other study.

do most imaging places do penile ultrasounds? where can i get one done at? is this a fairly common thing ordered?

It is not: a very common study, and I would venture that many facilities do not have the expertise to perform them.  If your urologist ordered one, he/she should know where you can go.  You can also try your insurance company.

what are the limitations of carotid ultrasound imaging?

A lot: Mri is superior. Utrasound reliable in total block or excellent flow but unable to determine degrees of stenosis.

Do you have any chronic medical conditions or history of kidney problems? (in your adult life or childhood)

Do you know of anyone else in your family that has similar findings?

No: larger fibroids can not be seen and measured unlelss transabdominal sonogram is done

US, MRI: Ultrasound (US) is excellent for evaluating tendons, including all the issues that you have mentioned. Depending on the tendon, some can be more difficult to evaluate with US than others based on the individual anatomy. For example, a tendon may curve around a bone which makes the exam more difficult. An MRI can provide exquisite information regarding tendons, and are often more specific than US.

had a pelvic ultrasound done & it was done very quickly. maybe about 2-3 minutes. is that long enough to get proper imaging? i'm concerned it wasn't.

Depends on tech skil: The speed of a scan depends on the technician's skill &amp; what they were instructed to image. A "pelvic ultrasound" could mean imaging 1 organ or as many as 10 structures, depending on how it was ordered; obviously fewer organs means less time. An experienced tech can whiz through 3-4 organs very quickly, whereas newer techs (&amp; Radiologists) can take longer to finish even a preliminary (1-organ)scan

stomach pains getting worse. i had an ultrasound imaging yesterday, and they called me back and they need more images. what could this be?

Wouldn't worry: Since I am not there to see the problem nor do I know your medical history i would trust your doctor and try not to worry. Sometimes the pictures don't come out as detailed as they would like and they would just need to re-do them.

can ultrasound be used to detect nerve impingement/entrapped nerve calf? is there any type of imaging that can detect a pinched nerve in the leg?

Nerve conduction: tests are quite good. MRI is likely to also be effective.

why do i have to go to my doctor for the radiology report and not the imaging clinic who did the ultrasound? how can they deny me?

Accepted Answer

: The report belongs to you and they can not deny it. However, all imaging studies need to be interpreted in the clinical context and your doctor can do it better than anyone of us. Sometimes the results are not clear cut and warrant an explanation and/or discussion.
