what's the difference between being colonized with mrsa and decolonized with it?

You cannot be: Once you are colonized with MRSA or some other strain of a common bacteria, you cannot really be decolonized with it.  Taking some specific antibiotics can help to clear it, to the point of not having an active infection, but you will always have traces of it.

May become ill: Most of us carry staphylococci in our bodies somewhere, often on the skin and mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract.  This includes mrsa.  You may be able to minimize the risk of its producing infection at a later date by attempting to eliminate it with Mupirocin nasal application and washing with Chlorhexidine containing soap, but ask your pediatrician about this.

Mrsa: If you finished the antibiotics you should not be colonized with Mrsa  colonization usually occurs in the nose.    If you are concerned your doctor can do a nasal culture to be sure

No: One can be totally asymptomatic and have MRSA colonize their nares.

Yes and No: Many people are "carriers" for MRSA and never develop symptoms. However, you are at risk for developing a serious infection with cuts, trauma, etc. Get prompt attention if you develop a cut, etc.

Mrsa: Mrsa can be cured with appropriate antibiotics and antibacterial cleansers like hibiclens.

what cleansers are effective for cleaning and sterilizing  my cpap mask and tubing to kill mrsa so i won't be colonized again?

Accepted Answer

Dilute bleach: A 1:10 dilution of bleach bottle is inexpensive and effective.  Cleaning solutions other than soap and water may decrease the lifespan of your equipment, so more frequent replacement may be necessary.

Relax. No for sure. : MRSA is a very common bacteria that lives on the skin of people. Staph aureus is the name of that bacteria and almost all the people have that. It is usually good unless it becomes resistant to some antibiotics and then labels as MRSA. Which mean methicillin resistant staph aureus. Taking universal precautions you can avoid its spread.  So good lick and no worries.

leaning towards the surgery option for diagnosis of endometriosis as there is no surgical dx. i am colonized w/ mrsa, what would be the risk of infection?

You may give to othe: If precautions are not taken more chances are others get infected than you, ( you are a carrier ) alert your doctor  in the  colonization bugs are co existing on your skin nose etc with out giving true infection to you , you should able to under go the  procedure with minimum  risk
