Prior to colonoscopy: Only helpful prior to a colonoscopy. Otherwise, in my opinion, it is not helpful , and sometimes can be harmful. It can cause cramping, bloating, nausea and vomiting, as well as risk for dehydration, perforation, infection etc. Discuss in detail with your conventional health care provider prior to the procedure if you choose to do so.

Likely: The bigger question is: is it necessary? I do not recommend colon cleansing to patients. The intestine naturally cleanses the body. There is no good evidence that it produces the results that cleansing touts. The danger of the treatment is that it can cause intestinal perforation or electrolyte imbalances.

The colon unless inflamed is more than adquate after years of evolution, to deal with the contents without causing problems.  Colonic hydrotherapy is of no proven benefit and cases of water intoxication or colonic perforation have been reported.
