how could i tell if my broken collarbone (fractured clavicle) is healing?

Pain level and xrays: The pain should be decreasing over the course of days/weeks, but that actually does not necessarily mean that the bone itself is healing.  The only sure way to tell is repeat x-rays.

Depends on situation: The collar bone has its own protective sleeve and is often cracked   or bent rather than separated. In many kids, a simple crack is left alone and will heal over 3-4 weeks. If the bend/crack is more dramatic, a brace holding the shoulders back can line up the pieces so they will heal.

what do i do if i think my collarbone is dislocated?  i also have 2 fractured ribs what can i do for treatment? i serve and bartender 60 hours a week

Be seen: You would definitely want to be seen immediately.  A dislocation if the collar bone from the sternoclavicular joint can even be life threatening.  A dislocation from the acroimioclavicular joint is usually less serious, but it sometimes needs surgery.  I would definitely be seen.

Majority are treated: In a sling + pain meds, but some are treated surgically if the bone fragments are widely separated, or if its an open fx (skin is broken over the fx site), or if there is an associated injury to a nerve or a vessel.

Collar bone: By now you probably have enough callus formation so you shouldn't have any trouble driving

: Take your 2 yo son to a pediatrician for an exam.  Is is difficult at age 2 to precisely judge the degree of pain or injury.  Children will favor the affected area, and it will be difficult to assess the cause.

Usually 6-12 weeks: Once the fracture is healed and you have full range of motion. We allow earlier return for activities such as stationary bike.

Clavicle injury: It is unlikely that this condition will change without further evaluation.  Clavicle injuries may be very treatable and should be evaluated by a physician specializing in musculoskeletal injury.

Your question is ???: This is a common injury and usually requires limited intervention.The collarbone is in a rubberized sleeve and often cracks without separating, leaving treatment using a simple sling or  a brace to keep the shoulders drawn back to keep it in position. The fracture heals with a bump at the sight that gradually changes over several years, most becoming unnoticable.

my left collarbone is in continuous pain and i have a chest cough which has been going on for about 4 days. could it be fractured?

Certainly there is: the possibility of rib or collar bone fracture with extreme coughing but it is more likely to be muscle spasm or strain. Other potential diagnoses include pneumothorax so it would be reasonable to seek health care evaluation as the symptoms have been persistent for four days. A Chest X-ray will tell the story.
