i was exposed to herpes a few days ago. i just touched my mouth and then touched my eye. but i dont have cold sores yet . can i transmit herpes to my eye this way even when no symptoms have arose?

It's possible: HSV may take a while to incubate and present on your body after exposure. Suggest you carefully monitor for any skin rash or eve problems. If it makes you feel more comfortable, would see your dermatologist for eval { and poss testing a bit later on}

Herpes and eye: Herpes virus can infect any part of the eye -- eyelid, front of the eye, middle and back of the eye.  So yes, it can cause iritis.

cold sore outbreak, hair from infected area accidentally went into left eye. 7 days since outbreak, what are the chances i infected my eye? i have had cold sores on and off for 20 years. freaking out!

Probably OK: It is extremely  rare for a hair to transmit the hsv virus of cold sores into the eye.  As a matter of fact i couldn't find any reports of this in the literature.  That being said, i would still advise you to see an ophthalmologist to get checked and be 100% sure.

my eye is red and swollen with severe pain, it even hurts to blink. it may have something to do with these two blister/cold sores i had on my lip.

Possibly: You need to get an ophthalmologic evaluation tomorrow to evaluate a possible herpes infection of the eye.  This type of infection, without treatment,  can lead to a permanent reduction of vision.

Have to be lucky: A lucky baby won't get eye herpes, but will just get it in the mouth or around the mouth. Babies touch their eyes often, but we rarely see babies get eye herpes. Life is just that way. That said, a baby in this situation might just take a nice long bath to get clean and then go enjoy the rest of his day. If he's a typical kid and lucky, he'll get no herpes this time or get the usual oral herpes.

Cold : Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus and there is a chance of the virus infecting your eye, also. Even though many herpes eye infections clear up without problems, some may go on the cause corneal scarring and damage to your vision.  Because if this, it is important that you see a doctor as soon as you can for a thorough eye exam.  If they are concerned about infection, they may put you on anti-viral eye drops to help minimize the chance of complication and scarring.  Good luck!

Stye: Your description sounds like a stye.  I would recommend warm compresses and scrubs.  If no improvement, you should go see youreye doctor.

Yes, it is serious: You can most certainly get herpes simplex (the virus that causes cold sores) in the eye.  This can be serious, so if it happens, you must see your doctor to start oral medication right away. Do not delay.
