i just discovered a tiny white lump under the skin in my left lobe. it hurts to touch. is it just a cyst or herpes simplex virus? i do get cold sores so i'm little worried it some how got to my ear ?

Herpes virus: The herpes virus is always the cause of cold sores.  It is mistakenly assumed that cold sores only occur on the mouth or nose, but they can occur anywhere.

Post longer question: Cold sores are usually not seen around ears, which means a doctor should look to see if they are truly cold sores or not. Cold sores on or near the lips are herpes infections, and resolve in most people in a week. Oral antiviral drugs such as Acyclovir and several others, are effective in preventing outbreaks of cold sores, decreasing the severity of sores, and shortening the healing time of sore.

Go see your doctor: You didn't mention how much longer you're supposed to take your antibiotic, nor why you were prescribed this specific one. Regardless, if you're concerned about possible side effect from any given medication, it's best to discuss this w/your prescribing doc who can then also discuss alternatives w/you.

i use an electric toothbrush. i get cold sores frequently. how can i sanitize my toothbrush? at $22 per head i cannot afford to replace each time.

White vinnegar: Excellent for cleaning dilute. 50/50 with water half hour soak. Rinse copius amounts of water.

Possible but unlikel: Hi Roy. It's possible for someone to shed the herpes virus and be asymptomatic. People with oral herpes may secrete the virus 2% to 9% of the time when they are not having sores. That being said, if they are asymptomatic and secreting the virus, the amount of virus being shed is much less. You can be tested for infection.  I would recommend knowing your sex partner And both of you testing  for STD

Herpes: Probably herpes virus. See your md to be sure. May prescribe acyclivir and / or Denavir (penciclovir) cream to help.

No: Herpes lablialis (cold sores) are caused by a virus that lies dormant in your body (specifically the trigeminal ganglion -which is part of the 5th cranial nerve).  The virus can be reactivated by trauma, sunlight, stress, fever, etc and manifests itself as a cold sore.  It does not start with or from a blackhead.

Possible: These white spots could be candidasis (yeast infection) also, it can be hpv (human papilloma virus) which is the cause of warts. 
However, you may want to have the spots checked out by your doctor.

Unlikely related: Sexually transmitted diseases may spread this way, but it is extremely unlikely that any symptoms or signs of such disease would manifest within just a few hours.  It is much more likely to bet the beginning of a cold sore or something else.
