It is OK.: The menstrual cycle involves a complex timed functional interaction between the hypothalamo-hypophyseal hormonal control,  the ovaries and the endometrium (uterine lining). Any variation in amount of hormone secreted or its timing in this complex system can result in a change of amount or duration of the next  menstrual cycle. During menses, the endometrium is shedding, explaining the particles.

Late for menstration: Any chance you are pregnant.?  Do urine pregnancy test.  Otherwise see your doctor for check up.

Can be normal: If it happened only once and you have no other symptoms you are probably ok. Yet if it has been like this for awhile i think it s a good ideea to be seen by a doctor. You can do a home pregnancy test to see if it was an early misscariage or it was just your period.

How soon after: Passing of clot s/p menses is common...If you notice an unexpectedly large proliferaion of clot, however, a visit to your gyn is strongly recommended as there may be other causes for the clots.

Normal Menses : Blood clots aren't required all the time for menses.  As long as the amount of flow is similar you should not worry.

Iron &amp; vitamins : Clots indicate excessive blood loss. You should take iron and multivitamins to prevent anemia. Your doctor can prescribe birth control pills that can limit your period to once a year.

Hemoglobin level: If you hemoglobin level is below 12 gm you are anemic. Even if you are not anemic yet, you may have low body store of iron due heavy menses. It would be appropriate for you to take oral iron supplement and multivitamin. At your next visit to the doctor you should express your concern about excessive blood loss.
