No: Tetracyclines reach the deeper structures via the bloodstream; it's part why they're best as a systemic medication. They also control new infections before they form. There's a bunch of studies that pretty much showed topical tetracycline isn't very effective, not nearly as good as the clindamycin.

At least 10-14 days: The combination of the two medications is reasonable for treating acne--depending upon the severity. You will need to use it for at least 10-14 days before you may see an improvement. Remember though, acne can be controlled, but nor definitively cured.

Topical Treatment: Topical retinoids and antibiotics are effective for comedonal and inflammatory acne.  If your condition is more severe and extensive with cysts, a brief course of systemic antbiotics would help.

Acne: Both can be effective, although through different actions.  Benzaclin (clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide) is more effective with acne causing bacteria.  Differing is a retinoid.   Uses in conjunction, they can be very effective. But, it's all trial and error.

No surprise: Acne is a chronic, incurable, non-lifestyle-related disease that at your age is a serious personal and professional liability. If your present regimen of doxycycline, azeliac acid and benzoyl peroxide has not stopped a flare, it's time to think about the big guns. Isotretinoin is not for the faint-hearted, and is not without its own risks, but you owe it to yourself to weigh whether it's for you.

Add systemic: Like many men, the topical rx isn't sufficient though clindamycin's a great topical. Ask your physician about a systemic antibiotic such as tetracycline 500 2x/day, if you're not satisfied after one month, it's time to get with a dermatologist about accutane, which is neither pleasant nor risk-free but in my opinion worth it.
