Follow MD advice: Preparation for a colonoscopy is a little different than treating chronic idiopathic constipation or other indications for certain constipation drugs. It is best to follow your MD's preparation instructions exactly.If you misplaced them you can call the office. Good luck.

Many: Most of the fda-approved bowel preps for a colonoscopy are actually prescriptions.  There are no longer many otc versions of it.  Discuss with your colonoscopist the benefits of each.

Mostly yes: In preparing for colonoscopy ist is necessary that the bowel be relatively clean so that small lesions can be recognized and biopsied if necessary.  As such bowel prep is employed.  In essence colonoscopy not performed without a prep.  Colon cleansing is also a term employed to cleanse the bowel which has impacted  with feces and a high colonic enema is used for cleansing.

Not Really: You can have clear liquids and jello (not red or purple); if you take any solid food, you will end up with a poor prep and may have to repeat the whole process again;

Not recommended: There is no health benefit from such an overly vigorous cleansing of the intestinal tract on a weekly or monthly basis. It actually has detrimental effects on the natural makeup of intestinal flora and takes days to recover back to a normal stage. Also the weight loss from the colonoscopy prep usually comes right back after a few days. Consult a dietician at your hospital to help you with dieting

Colon Cleanses: Can be dangerous but the preps used for colonoscopies are safe and very low risk when used as instructed by your endoscopist.
Otc colon cleanses are a hype and taking advantage of gullible patients and pose potential of damage to the cells lining your colon. Best way to keep colon clear is to eat a healthy high fiber doet, drink 80-100 ounces of caffeine/alcohol free fluid daily and save your mone.

You bet it is: The colonoscopy prep is designed to clean out bowel to allow direct unimpaired visualization, and on one occasion is harmless other than uncomfortable.  But repetitive use can wash out electrolytes, especially potassium, and could impair typical bowel digestive activities.  There are reasons why this weight loss approach never became popular.  There are alternative approaches.
