Drug store: You can find pre made splints at drug stores, but before you immobilize your finger for more than a couple of days you should see an orthopedic surgeon to get the problem diagnosed. Some injuries should not be splinted, some should be splinted straight others with a bend at one of the joints.

Cts splint: For carpal tunnel a cock-up wrist splint is used to maximally open up the canal and limit pressure on the nerve. It is primarily used at night to control nocturnal parasthesias, the pain and numbness that awakens you at night. It does this by preventing you from sleeping in a flexed position at the wrist. Splints are often used for different types of tendonitis to limit use of the inflamed tendon.

Yes...: With special hand splints that keep your hand in a functional position can help the hand from worsening. Also, seeing an occupational therapist can help w/ that also. See your md & ask for that special splint. You can also put a rolled up wash cloth in your hand to help keep your hand open. Ask to see an occupational therapist.  Good luck!

Possibly surgery: Conservative treatment for carpal tunnel including splints, anti inflammatory meds and steroids work in the early stages but do not provide great long term relief as the condition worsens. Surgery can provide great relief and if done endoscopically can allow a rather quick return to function with minimal pain compared to traditional techniques. I would recommend an evaluation by a hand surgeon.

It depends: Splinting of the hand is a lot more complex than you might imagine. Different fractures require different types of splinting. Some fractures require surgery. If you splint a particular fracture in the wrong manner it can actually make the deformity worse.  It is best to see a hand surgeon to determine the best type of splinting necessary.

Ask your surgeon: This should be directed to the surgeon who repaired the hand. Follow the restrictions, as jumping the gun could reinjure the hand or prolong full recovery. Good luck.
