is fexofenadine more effective than loratadine for hayfever?

Allergy meds : Hello, I am asked this question quite often. Which otc allergy medication is best? My answer is for each person to try a medication and see which works best for them. Personally i feel that fexofenadine is more effective than loratadine. That is my opinion in how each works for me.

You can, but...: You are unlikely to receive significant additional benefit from increasing the dose of loratadine in a case like this. Antihistamines are often inadequate to control the inflammation associated with moderate rhinitis.  Furthermore, loratadine can take hours to reach its full effect.

Desensitization: There are other medications that can prescribed, depending on what is available in your country, steroid nasal sprays help with nasal congestion. Also if you have a board certified allergist, see if you are a candidate for allergen desensitization or allergy shots. They give you long term relief from your allergies.

No: Do not self-treat your 2 year old. Discuss the options with your child's pediatrician instead.

: It is almost a double dose but not dangerous because he takes the extra dose before bed time but he should not expect a significant improvement because these drugs have long half life.

Both work...: But i tend to prefer Cetirizine because I have had a better personal experience and my patients generally do better with this treatment as well. Of course, if you use Loratadine and it is helping, stick with it.

Cetirizine: Both are anti- histamines that help with the symptoms of hay fever. However, both my personal & professional experience has been that Cetirizine is more effective. Every patient is different, so some may respond better to one medication over another. Both are over the counter.

Yes: You can, if the Cold &amp; Flu tablets don't contain an antihistamine, best wishes

hello, i have just bought a medication called laritol d which contains 30mg of phenylephrine and 5mg of loratadine. is this combination dangerous?

No, unless : You have high blood pressure, the phenylepherine component would increase your blood pressure further. In the USA this kind of drug isn't available OTC, only under doctor's supervision, take care
