No concern: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, the result you provided are normal and not a cause for concern.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

hello. i am a 27 year old healthy female with a 22 bmi. no history of bad health. i recently got a blood test and for my kidneys it said this: gfr afr amer (ckd-epi) your value: 151 ml/min/1.73m standard range: =60ml/min/1.73m is that normal?

my ckd-epi is 70, every test came back normal (urea, serum creatinine, na, uric acid, urine - no proteinuria, no glucose), no high blood pres, no stmptoms. my cardiologist said not to worry and came back in one year. should i see a nephrologist?

Having said that, eGFR takes into account age, gender and creatinine. It would be safer to consult a nephrologist to make sure a treatable issue is not missed.    Wish you good health!

Kidney dysfunction: The kidney filters blood in order to draw out waste/urine.  Your GFR (glomerular filtration rate) is a bit low, but not urgently low. Whether this is an acute (aki) or chronic (ckd) problem depends more upon you medical history and the original indication for obtaining this test.  The physician who ordered it is better equipped to make an interpretation beyond this level.

Depends: Stage 3 has a wide range of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) from 30-60. It depends on what your GFR is. Also it depends on how much protein loss you have in urine.

how safe is taurine in  ckd?

Accepted Answer

Not clear.: It may depend on the severity of the ckd.  A small study in 2002 [nephrol. Dial. Transplant. (2002) 17 (3): 528-529] looked at taurine supplementation in dialysis patients and found increased side effects (mostly dizziness and vertigo) that resolved with discontinuation of the taurine. Recommend using caution with any non-fda approved pharmaceuticals, particularly in ckd.  Not enough is known.

No: Gout is not a symptom of chronic renal failure. Ch. Renal failure can rarely occur after many years of gout/ high uric acid levels by causing kidney stones.

Probably not: Not aware of any specific medicinal values. Patients with chronic kidney disease have to be careful about taking any herbs as some of the herbs may hurt kidneys.

Sometimes: Prostatitis  can cause prostate g;and enlargement which could partially partially obstructed distal urinary system. Chronic obstruction by either benign prostatic hyperplasia (bhp) can cause chronic urinary obstruction and chronic renal failure.A lot depends on degree of obstruction and duration.
