tried celexa (citalopram) 5mg, day 2 worst anxiety of my life stopped meds, why am i so sensitive to small dose? i am not the norm- scared to try a new med

Unusual : Your reaction is relatively rare, especially on such a low dose. As far as I know the smallest dose celexa (citalopram) comes in is 10 mg - so are breaking the 10 mg in half? Also, are you taking any other meds- prescription or otherwise?  Had any liver problems? Have you experienced anything like this with other meds? Have a conversation with the prescribing doc to figure out what the issue/s might be.

i started celexa (citalopram) 5mg 2 nights ago. are nausea and headache normal this early on?  i just wanted to feel better and i feel worse.

Side effect: Headache, even migraine type, is mentioned as a possible side effect of Celexa (citalopram) in some patients. If your headaches persist, taper off the Celexa (citalopram) to see if the headaches clear. If you want to prove the connection, resume the Celexa (citalopram) and if headaches return, you have proven that you're intolerant of celexa (citalopram).

recently started citalopram. 5mg for 10 days, 1st day on 10 mg. can i take l-theanine with it as well to help anxiety during the day? instead of benzo

Let Rx Dr. Know 1st: In all likelihood, your Dr. should not have a problem with this.  The L Theanine is a natural substitute such as Green tea, and may help anxiety and sleep issues as well, and get you off an addicting Benzo at the same time. It is important, for continuity of care to tell your Rx dr. of your wishes though.

Perhaps but: I would recommend that you consult your doctor to find an alternate drug.   Even if you have only 1/2 of the side effects from reducing the dose, these side effects are potentially serious.

Celexa (citalopram): Not likely. We normally prescribe Celexa (citalopram) as once or twice daily, up to 40 mg. Daily dose, for depression/anxiety.

Great Question!: Citalopram is a good antidepressant. Sometimes patients experience insomnia due to the stimulating effect of their medicine. Another possibility is an under-treated or partial response to your medicine resulting in your poor sleep. Also, diazepam can trigger a rebound insomnia. You will want to talk to your doctor to sort out what is going on that is causing you to have poor sleep quality.

started taking 20mg citalopram and 0.5mg lorazepam.  is it ok to have a couple glasses of wine or alcoholic beverages with this?

No alcohol: Alcohol is to be avoided when taking either of these drugs. Together it is especially important not to be consuming alcohol.

See below: You should be taking your medications the way they were prescribed to you by your provider. Any questions should be addressed with the prescribing provider. It is also not a good idea to use any sort of recreational drugs when you're on prescription medications.

Anxiety: Anxiety can cause a paradoxical reaction in some patients. However, each SSRI has unique pharmacological properties and just because you had an adverse reaction to Zoloft (sertraline) doesn't necessarily predict how you'll respond to other SSRI's. I'd suggest closely partnering with your psychiatrist to discuss what medication might be best for you and whether behavioral therapy might be helpful.
