Varies with age: I don't know percentages, but UTIs are uncommon in men under ~40 &amp; very rare in men your age (21), mostly due to known urinary tract problems like congenital anomalies, surgery, injury, etc. More common with rising age, due to more frequent predisposing factors like prostate enlargement and kidney stones. At age 21, UTI symptoms usually are due to STDs, especially if there is penile dishcarge

Symptoms include urinary frequency and urgency (gotta go all the time, nothing comes out), bladder spasm, pelvic pain. More common in men are infections like STDs (chlamydia/gonorrhea) or epididymitis, an infection in the testicle. Go get this checked. Any of the above need to be treated.

UTI symptoms: One of the classic symptoms of a urinary infection is an abnormal or 'bad' smell. Other symptoms can include a change in the urine color (darker and/or cloudy) and difficulty or pain with urination. There's a whole spectrum of symptoms and catching the disease early is a key before other symptoms develop or progress. I would definitely schedule a visit with your primary MD to get a urinalysis.

If the prostate is large, as it gets as we age, or it there is a stricture (an obstruction in the tube) then the bladder may not empty and residual urine in the bladder is more likely to become infected.
