having recurrent fungal ear infections since 2/2021. i go to the ent every time. given acetic drops/ ofloxacin/antibios each time. now i have chronic sinusitis, is this the cause? can recurrent infections cause complications like meningitis? scared.?

: I've never seen it, but chronic untreated sinusitis can cause meningitis. You should be in good hands as you're being treated and followed by an ENT specialist. However I recommend having a complete medical examination including appropriate lab work because of your recurrent fungal infections and chronic sinusitis.

how important is septoplasty for chronic sinus and ear infections?  i'm 37 yo.

Not important: The septum effects breathing and in some cases can occlude areas in the nasal cavity where the sinuses drain. This latter case may contribute to chronic sinusitis- however the septum has very little influence on sinus infection and no role in ear infection.

Unlikely: Unlikely with those two tests negative. If he is in daycare, that is most likely the answer. He'll catch something every 4 - 6 weeks. If not, allergies, GERD &amp; immune system issues could be the cause.

Infections: It is not easy to be sure if you have a sinus infection but some of the symptoms are stuffiness, pressure over your sinuses, head ache and a lengthy persistence of the symptoms. Ear infections often hurt and often cause a decrease in you hearing . To be sure and treat it properly go see you doctor.

Similar timing!: Your sinuses and ears are connected inside your head. So sinus congestion and stuffiness can affect the pressure in your ears. Treating sinus congestion may help overall discomfort and pain from that pressure.

i am pretty sure i have a sinus infection with double ear infection, but don't have a dr. appointment until tomorrow, what can i take now  to help?

Nasal rinse: Saline nasal rinse with neti pot, decongestant (pseudoephredrine) and an otc antiinflammatory may tide you over.  Your friendly pharmacist can help.  Hope this clears up quickly.

i have a left ear infection and left side sinus infection. i am taking the zpak. is that going to get reid of it or will i need something else too?

Zithromax is good: Zithromax is ok for uncomplicated sinus infections. You need to give it a few days though. Also try steam and decongestants. Stay away from antihistamines as these can be drying.

Yes it should: both are upper respiratory tract infections and should respond  if no improvement in 72 hrs contact your doctor

I'm : I'm not sure if i'm understanding your question completely - the "flu" - also known as influenza - is a virus that can cause runny nose, cough, vomiting, body aches, fever, and tiredness.  It often lasts at least a week.  In children, the flu can lead to pneumonia or dehydration.  Because of this, i always recommend the flu vaccine to all my pediatric patients (and as a mom, i always give it to my two children).  The flu vaccine can be given as a shot or as a nasal spray.

sinusitis is due to a bacteria (or rarely a fungus) not a virus.  Ear infections can be due to a virus, but more often are due to a bacteria.

Decongestant: You may need to be treated with a decongestant and these can be obtained otc. Begin with Pseudoephedrine and can also use oxymetozaline spray, but be careful to limit the latter to only a day or two.  Check with your friendly pharmacist for the product names.
