Difficult to know: Possibly. We do not have good research that suggests visiting a chiropractor in the absence of a problem. Certainly I do not recommend it as preventive medicine.

Accepted Answer

No, of course not: One can see her primary care doctor for an evaluation.  The doctor can refer to a physiatrist (physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor) if needed, plus refer to a physical therapy center if that seems likely to help.

Science vs fiction: Real doctors depend upon scientific studies and compilation of results to determine the best course of therapy.  Chiropractors utilize a seriously outmoded, and discredited theory of disease causation to make their statements.  What they offer is a sometimes comforting deep massage but no real diagnosis and cure. They are impervious to scientific evidence.

can a chiropractor turn my baby?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely no: Turning the baby to facilitate delivery is a technique that saves a great deal of misery.  It is done by an obstetrician and occasionally your family doctor.  There is absolutely nothing in the training or knowledge of a chiro to perform this procedure.  If you are offered this by a chiro, run away fast.  See you obstetrician.

Ask around: Back and neck pain are very common, affecting 60-80 percent if the population; so in all likelihood some of you'd r friends and neighbors probably have used a chiropractor and can likely steer you toward a good one.  A primary care doctor would also know the reputation of the chiropractors in your area as well.  Beware of picking one just based in an ad you see in the paper.

Huge difference: Physiatrists are fully trained md's with an interest in sports medicine and the effects of injury on the body, especially bones and joints.  They practice modern medical techniques and use the latest treatments unlike the discredited theories espoused by chiropractors.

As an orthopedist-: -I actually see no benefit for major orthopedic problems. 4 sore or acing back or other things of this sort may make you feel better but if left alone the will clear by themselves.

Chiro Care: You can expect to be treated very professionally, with attention to your complaints.  You will have a thorough assessment of your general musculoskeletal health.  You may be referred for xrays depending upon your complaint and a program of therapy will likely be proposed.  Chiropractic care uses a philosophy of manipulative therapy similar to massage and osteopathic manipulation to alleviate pain.

No: Not by doing one of their usual exams, which does not include checking your private parts. (truth is, "virginity" can't always be determined by any physician.) chiropractors are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as physicians and nurses.
