how can cupping help us eliminate any disease?

Good question: This is an ancient practice now popularized by some of the Olympic swimmers.  One of my patients told me that it really relieved her muscle ache at her shoulders. But I am not aware of any scientific study on this subject. Since it does no harm (although it leaves a transient burn mark), one may try it for muscle pain. As for eliminating disease, I am a skeptic.

Definitely: Cupping causes trauma to the skin and its blood  vessels causing discoloration, and, if it causes the skin to release histamine, can cause itching. The discoloration takes days to clear.

Possible glaucoma: If you are describing cupping of the optic nerve of the eye, then it can be a sign of glaucoma.  Your eye doctor could explain whether you might have glaucoma, and the appropriate treatment.

Accepted Answer

No: Cupping treatments do not have any effect on Hepatitis B. That means cupping does not make a patient's Hepatitis disease better or worse if she has the disease, and cupping does not make it more likely or less likely for a person to catch Hepatitis B, if she does not have the virus. Of course, every person who does not have the virus should get the vaccine... to prevent Hepatitis B.

Optic nerve eval: Glaucoma suspect is a term applied to individuals that have risk factors for glaucoma ( thin cornea, above normal eye pressure, positive family history of the disease) &amp; may have subtle optic nerve changes that are NOT causing structural optic nerve damage or functional vision loss. There are many millions of people that are suspects &amp; are monitored. Only fraction develop disease. (OD=rt, OS=lt).

my ophthamologist has told me for 3 years that i have severe cupping that he says might occur in 1% of pts.  meaning?

Depends on factors: like your visual field results, your optic nerve topography, your race (as in african americans the cup may appear physiologically larger, but is considered normal), and s/he needs to discuss what impact that has with YOUR eyes. If the pressures are normal, the cupping has not progressed, your vision is good &amp; pressures normal, s/he may be monitoring you for now. Ask your eye doctor for sure!

Chinese cupping?: If you are referring to the above, it is common to get bruising after cupping but I've not seen blisters.  Are the cups too hot?  Are you on a blood thinner?  Please see your doc to make sure your health is ok for cupping.  Peace and good health.

Perhaps WNL: May be normal but wonder if comment regarding intraocular pressure.  Ask your doctor if significant correlation

Can't hurt to try.: Cupping is a  long used  treatment.  Although it has theoretical benefits for pain it has  not been studied for dystonia .  It won't hurt  to try.

A trained neuromuscular therapist in  conjunction with botulism injections are more traditional and proven treatments.
