Viral infection: This sounds very much like a vita upper respiratory infection and the symptoms should subside over the next few days. Use regular paracetamol and Nurofen to help with the recovery process. If the symptoms worsen see a doctor, you may need antibiotics if there is a secondary bacterial infection.

Inflammation: Phlegm can be produced by inflammation in the chest. That could be underlying asthma or exposure to dust or chemicals. It can also be caused by viral or bacterial infections. Certain allergies can also cause production of phlegm.

my son is 8 weeks old an seems to have a cold. symptoms are coughing, sneezing and flem on chest.

Nasal washout: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages &amp; exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke &amp; other irritants aggravates this.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion &amp; produces rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline &amp; suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment &amp; this will happen less.

Your symptoms could be due to a variety of causes.  Much depends on the details you can provide such as duration, severity, aggravating/alleviating factors.  Your symptoms could be due to a cold, sinus infection, allergy, acid reflux, tonsillitis, etc.  If your symptoms persist beyond 5-7 days, see your doctor so they can prescribe appropriate treatment.
