Benzoyl Peroxide: Stop using benzoyl peroxide and call your doctor at once if you have severe stinging or burning of your skin.
Less serious side effects may include:
mild stinging or burning;
itching or tingly feeling;
skin dryness, peeling, or flaking; or
redness or other irritation.

: Did your face blister or peel? If not I expect no permanent facial skin damage. The face has a great blood supply for healing.

Contact dermatitis: This sounds like contact dermatitis.  Apply moisturizer daily, also apply 1% hydrocortisone 2-3 times a day until things improve

: Sometimes what looks like lighter patches of skin may actually just be dry areas. Try using an oil free moisturizer for a few days to see if that changes the appearance of the skin. If the areas are truly depigmenting, there may be additional causes such as fungal infection. At that point you should seek help from a dermatologist.

If you must ask...: You probably need something stronger. The washes with plenty of salicylic acid are the ones to choose, or simply apply 5% benzoyl peroxide 2x/day. If you're not clear in two weeks, get with your personal physician.

Of course not: Please forgive my frankness. Somebody made this up as a cruel prank. If your acne hasn't responded to topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated after two weeks, get with your personal physician who can add something that will clear you. I'm really sorry that you had to ask -- acne is a grave personal and professional liability that you need to manage until it remits on your own.

Listen: Acne is ALWAYS managable if the physician knows what he/she is doing. You're an adult and acne is a major personal and professional liability. If topical benzoyl peroxide wasn't enough (and I trust you're using this and/or retinoic acid), systemic tetracycline, topical clindamycin, systemic spironolactone, the oral contraceptive pill and/or "Accutane" are all options.

Some HC cream helps: Usually, when a person gets over-irritated skin or overly-dry skin after using acne medications, she can decrease or stop the acne medication (if they are over-the-counter, or if her doctor says that is ok to do), and then try some hydrocortisone cream (HC cream) on the irritated areas for a few days. Avoiding too much sun exposure on irritated skin is also helpful.
