when i'm unwell with colds etc i wake up often during night feeling like i wasnt breathing. my oxygen levels are around 88% when i check and come up very quickly to 99% once awake. perhaps sleep apnea? how can i make sure i don't die from this? scary?

my roommate tells me that i toss and turn very much while iam asleep? checked by entering doc and he dismissed sleep apnea what may cause this

Not so fast, here: You could still have a sleep disorder, and this could include "paroxysmal limb movements in sleep". and a "REM sleep disorder", but sometimes, sleep apnea appears in this guise.  If you have sleeping problems, an overnight sleep study could be very revealing.  Maybe you need a second opinion.

at my last check up, i forgot to tell the doctor about obstructive sleep apnea. is that ok?

No: No, sleep apnea is a lot like diabetes in that it causes problems long term. Hypertension, heart disease, stroke are all more common in apnea patients. Let your doctor know.

Not how it works: The very best way to diagnose sleep apnea is by direct observation during an overnight sleep study, and even better an evaluation using c-pap unit.  A determination of either pulse oximetry or arterial blood carbon dioxide will be nonspecific, or entirely non-diagnostic.

i have already had my heart checked out. woke up during night feeling lightheaded and like i was about to pass out. my heart felt like it was beating less strongly. could it be dehydration? sleep apnea?

Check it out: It would be helpful to know what was done to check your heart.  Did you have blood testing and a cardiac monitor of some sort, besides an EKG? Would need to  Consider things like electrolyte imbalances, thyroid and more.
Sounds like more needs to be done.

You are/were smoker?: Sleep apnea can cause drop in oxygern during the night, but should be relatively normal during day (because you are breathing normally during day). Are you or were you a smoker? Copd/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can be cause of low o2 saturation. So, i would check with doc to find out why.
A cpap/bipap is recommended for sleep apnea. I am glad your heart checked out ok. Good luck.

my son snores loud, his dad has sleep apnea.is there a chance he has apnea as well?should i have his tonsils/adenoids checked, does these cause snoring?

Yes : Large tonsils & adenoids can cause snoring and eventually lead to sleep apnea. The enlarged adenoids can be caused by infections and/or allergies and since dad suffers from sleep apnea and apples don't fall far from trees it might not be a bad idea to have him evaluated by your pmdand or ent.

Breathing problem: Its an upper airway problem where your airway gets partially blocked when you sleep and that affects your breathing and oxygenation to the point that you will be constantly waking up (without noticing) all night to improve your breathing. That will cause you to have an ineffective sleep and cause tiredness throughout the day. On the long run, it causes hypertension and heart problems

Possibly: for the most part it can be treated. in some individuals, with enough weight loss or with more advanced surgery, their AHI can normalize. However, it is still possible for them to develop sleep apnea again if they were to regain their weight, etc.

Not breathing: Apnea is breath-holding, or not breathing.  Some people have periods of time they don't breath while they are asleep.  Sometimes it is related to body weight, other times it is neurological.  Treatment usually involves weight loss, mouthguards to reposition the mouth, or even cpap.  If not treated, this can lead to lung/heart problems, chronic fatigue, weight gain, and high blood pressure.
