: Most are very sensitive to drug pushers and that is the reason they are mostly forbidden to enter many dr offices. I would go to Drugs.com and review. The most popular may not be the best.  A lot of it depends on how well the company has put into pushing their own med.  I would also go to PUBMED.gov and read for yourself.

when i take my angiotensin receptor blocker in the morning i get extreme anxiety, and when i take it at night it actually makes me sleepy. doesn't make sense. on drugs.com people complain about anxiety from arbs why is that?

: Medication adverse effects are common and vary individually. Sleepiness is not a common adverse effect of an ARB drug but the opposite, insomnia, is more common but I think it could happen. In that case, you can safely take this medication at bedtime. Unfortunately, I doubt if any doctor or pharmacist can offer you a satisfactory answer.

Accepted Answer

: A mild decrease in blood pressure should not cause any problems.  Possibly some lightheadedness or dizziness on standing.  It should not damage the heart.

: Although measurement of sympathetic nervous system activity is difficult, hormonal studies have demonstrated that ARBs and ACE inhibitors have no significant effect on sympathetic nervous system activity.  I have worked with these converting enzyme inhibitors in numerous patients ever since they became available and have never seen inappropriate sympathetic nervous system overactivity in them.

Generally : Well tolerated. Common side effects potentially include: dizziness, low blood pressure, headache, diarrhea, fatigue and elevated potassium to name a few. A serious side effect angioedema (swelling of throat/tongue etc) is relatively uncommon.

Accepted Answer

Losartan: Losartan is the only generic angiotensin receptor blocker available at this time.  There are however several inexpensive  angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors available which generally work as well  and would be a good option unless you have side effects such as cough from it.

See below: Angiotensin receptor blockers -- eprosartan (teveten) and Irbesartan (avapro) became available in generic form in 2010. Your pharmacist can provide more up to date information.

: I would choose the one with a longer half life but many other aspects may affect the decision such as its cost, insurance formulary or side effects.

Accepted Answer

: Yes, the longer half life of the ARB, the longer time it peak effect will occur. However, the response time is somewhat individualized. ARB exerts its effect through the receptors and then the enzymatic cascade change so it takes a little more time for the full effect to happen.
