Chantix side effects: Yes, achy muscles and joints have been reported as side effects to Chantix.  They are not common.

Common side effects include loss of taste, nausea, trouble sleeping, headache, dry mouth or constipation.

No drug interactions: There are no drug interactions but you must be aware of the fact that Chantix can cause depression, particularly in people who are depression prone.I don't know exactly why you are taking zoloft, (sertraline) but if you are taking it for depression then  be extra careful. If you have even one day of significant depression i would recommend that you stop the Chantix immediately and call your treating physician.

Dreams/side effect: "abnormal dreams" is a known Chantix side effect. "abnormal" here means unusual for that person, not necessarily abnormal in the sense of being pathological. Increased dreaming, unusually vivid dreams, or nightmares are sometimes annoying enough that people stop chantix. It can also cause or exacerbate depressive symptoms. As with any drug, one has to balance the risks and the benefits.

Depends: Prednisone for short periods of time is safe. Chantix however is under scrutiny after a canadian study was published this summer showing a high risk of stroke and heart attack in patients taking the drug.  Like all medication the risk must be balanced by the benefit.  I have had a lot of patients have high success with chantix.

Common side effect: Nicotine receptors are widespread in the brain, and Chantix acts on several of these receptors.  Nightmares or vivid dreams do not occur in everyone, but they are very common. More serious side effects, such as worsening depression with suicidal thoughts can also occur, but are not common.  If side effects would cause you to stop the medication, please talk to your doctor about alternatives.

The : The treatment of alopecia areata is typically intralesional steroids into the bald patch.  It works fairly well and often requires a series of treatments every month or so.  This is a very common condition seen by a dermatologist.  I hope that helps.

First 2 weeks: When you are building up to the maintenance dose, it is usually given as 0.5 mg twice a day first week and then 1 mg twice a day, and at the beginning of the second (or at most the third) week you stop the smoking.
