Same as before: Having one miscarriage doesn't increase your chances of having a second miscarriage.  Neither does having a D&amp;C.  If you have two miscarriages your chances of a third start to increase.  Best Wishes

ive had 2 miscarriages in the past, 1 in the 1st trimester the other in the 2nd trimester. im pregnant again and would like to know how i can actively decrease my chances of miscarrying. ?

Miscarriage ?'s: If you are again pregnant, and the previous miscarriages were due to an abnormality in the womb, sometimes additional pregnancies can be successful.  If you miscarry again, get a hysterosalpingogram  (HSG) to see if your womb has  a septum dividing the internal chamber.  At this point, testing cannot be done, as it may be harmful to your present pregnancy.

Twin Pregnancies : The twin miscarriage rate is 17-20% overall, but does become less frequent later in pregnancy. Nevertheless, as you already know, twin pregnancy is a high risk pregnancy, and should be under the close care of your OB provider.

Miscarriage ?'s: A miscarriage at 17 weeks of pregnancy is unusual, but that length of pregnancy may also cause lactation to occur. This may not be obvious at first, but milk can accumulate in your breasts, and normal activity may cause some leakage to occur. This should not occur for long.  If this continues, see your gyn physician for a blood test (prolactin level).

No, but: Diarrhea in itself will not cause a miscarriage. However, sometimes miscarriages are associated with increase in chemicals called prostaglandins in the body, and this can cause diarrhea. Sometimes 17 week loses are associated with problems that are correctable so you should see a specialist prior to the next pregnancy for evaluation.

No: No there is no safe home abortion, especially after pregnancy reaches 17 weeks.  First see your doctor.  It can be dangerous and deadly for you to attempt anything without physician supervision.

Get checked.: The best thing to do is be seen by your OB if there is bleeding. You can get reassurance with an ultrasound or by hearing the babies heartbeat with an instrument called a doppler. Also, it is important to make sure she has her blood type checked so she knows if she needs protection against isoimmunization (a disease of blood type miss-match that can cause problems in future pregnancies).

Decaf O.K.: Decaffeinated coffee is best as the caffeine in coffee can speed up the fetus' heart rate which is already 120 to 160 beats/minute normally. Faster fetal heart rates can actually cause cardiac arrests just like in adults.
