No: Trauma does not increase your chances of getting brain tumors.

Accepted Answer

Not likely: The cause of most meningiomas is not known.  A few occur in genetic syndromes such as neurofribomatosis type ii, and some occur after radiation therapy for other tumors.  Head trauma is not known to cause these tumors.  Sometimes one is discovered when there is head trauma leading to a brain scan (ct or mri) as an "incidental" finding.

No: There is no connection between traumatic brain injury and the development of subsequent cancer.

i have swelling on one side of my posterior skull. i had a head injury many years back. i had c-t scan also. can this swelling develop into tumor?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: It is unlikely.  If the swelling is getting larger or is getting more painful then it needs to be re-evaluated to make sure that it does not represent a sarcoma or any other kind of soft tissue tumor.

Concussion: Some people may have a post-concussive/traumatic headache. If the headache is accompanied by other symptoms (tinnitus, difficulty concentrating, irritability) then you might have post-concussion syndrome. Accepted Answer

Yes and no: Most men diagnosed with a prolactinoma have some degree of loss of sex hormone production. They may also have visual loss  and/or headache. A minority of patients with large tumors may have bleeding into the tumor (pituitary apoplexy) causing relatively sudden onset of headache, visual loss, double vision, and/or pituitary failure.

Accepted Answer

Perhaps: A prolactinoma is usually not cancerous, but can slowly grow and affect the other functions of the pituitary gland. It should be evaluated by a specialist and monitored (usually by periodic mri).

Head injury: If the only finding is high prolactin that usually resolves and can be followed with blood levels. This will likely not be of concern but does need to be monitored.

Pituitary : These are not classic symptoms of most pituitary tumors. Since your dizziness is affected by head movements, an inner ear cause is possible. The nasal congestion may or may not contribute to this by blockage of the eustachian tube which connects the back of the nose to the middle ear. An Otolaryngologist is best to evaluate and advise you.

Accepted Answer

Concussion: You probably suffered a concussion. With severe head trauma, diffuse axonal injury may lead to long lasting and sometimes subtle permanent cognitive impairment.  Sometimes repeating a neuroimaging,  like an mri, may be necessary.  Stay in touch with your doctor so he could determine if further medical care is needed. Recovery may be slow and it may take up to three to six months in some cases.
