Swollen joint-see MD: There are  many reasons a joint can become swollen, injury, infection, and  major diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, to name a few! Since this has happened in other joints, this may be a disease that involves multiple joints.  Please see a doc and get it sorted out. The treatment for serious several types of serious arthritis are excellent now and delay permanent joint crippling often.

And?: What are you doing about it? It doesn't sound like you can wait past today without addressing this immediately with a health care professional.  Things can get worse, much, much worse, in the next couple of hours.  I would act now to address this.

Cold pack: If no idea how/why suddenly swollen, then might be infection, or gout (but odd for your age to be there). Can keep eye on it & cool compresses to see if swelling goes down. If does not, or if increases, should see dr / urgent care for examination to see what is going on.

Finger swelling: You have overuse tendinitis if the finger, and need to use dibberent fingers for texing and rest that finger and take some anti inflammatory meds.If it persists see your doctor for further help.

This : This could be secondary to an infection (abscess), wart, trauma, etc. It is very difficult to say without a more detailed history and physical. If the "lump" is still present please encourage your roommate to see a doctor.

Paronychia is the: term for an infection that develops along the edge of the fingernail or toenail. Try warm soaks for 15 minutes in a 50% solution of antibacterial soap in water. Do this three or four times a day. Paronychia is usually caused by common skin bacteria entering the skin around the nail that has been damaged by dishwashing, other irritants, or finger sucking. If it does not improve, see your doctor.

Swollen fingertip : Follow up with  MD as may have infection and need antibiotics, lancing ( opening the infection) They may also do an x-ray to make sure the bone is not infected depending on how long it has been swollen.
