Icterus: When red blood cells break down they release bilirubin.  This bilirubin is filtered out by the body's coffee filter, the liver.  If the liver is not working well or too many red blood cells are breaking down (as with sickle cell), the bilirubin builds up and turns the skin and whites if the eyes yellow.  This yellow discoloration is easier seen in the eyes since there is no pigment for masking, .

i drink 10 glass water daily and have no jaundice.my skin is dry how can i get white sclera easily?

Accepted Answer

White sclera: Every eye is different in terms in the amount of redness and vascularity.  You will never get your eyes back to the way they look in infancy.  Keeping the eyes lubricated with artificial tears and using over-the-counter eye drops with a vasocontrictor (ie get the red out drops) should help quite a bit.  I would recommend to avoid overuse of the otc get the red out drops.

See a doctor: I am not sure of what caused your jaundice in childhood but if you still have yellow sclera that is clearly not normal.  You should see a doctor and have some liver tests.  The inconsistent stool may or may not be related to that.  Make sure you drink lots of water, be active with exercise and eat a diet that has fruits and vegetables to provide adequate fiber to help regulate your stool

See doc: If the whites of your eyes are yellowish but your skin is not, and this is new, you may have a slight rise in your bilirubin.  This may be due to a variety of conditions including early liver or blood disease.  There are benign causes such as gilbert's disease, but the other more serious possibilities require laboratory evaluation.

Hydration: Gilbert's syndrome is a benign condition. The jaundice becomes prominent  if one is dehydrated or during inter current unrelated acute febrile illness. The best you can do is to drink enough fluids to avoid dehydration.

No worries: Bring that up with your pediatrician. What is yellowish to you may not be actual yellow. To your doctor...May be a reflection of genetics or melanin content.  Your pediatrician can reassure you by seeing it. Many newborns have yellowish color until about a month old..She is a bit older so it would be helpful to have her seen. It most likely just a bit prolonged in clearing.

What kind of detox?: Detox, like inpatient detox from narcotics, meth, etc? "detox" like with colonics, herbals, etc? Jaundice is caused by blockage to the flow of bile-within cells, small ductules, bile ducts. Can be due to liver damage, blockage by stones, tumors, inflammation of liver, toxic reaction to meds, herbals, etc. Call your doc, needs evaluation.

: Most bilirubin is eliminated in stool, but a small amount is eliminated in urine. If bilirubin cannot be moved through the liver and bile ducts quickly enough, it builds up in the blood and is deposited in the skin. The result is jaundice. Many people with jaundice also have dark urine and light-colored stool, but some do not. Talk to your Dr about your specific situation/condition.

Galactose liver toxi: Because in galactosemia there is bodys ability to metabolise galactose due to deficiency of liver enzymes needed for that.It causes accumulation of galactose in the body and it damages the liver and that is the cause of jaundice.If not corrected by lactose(breaks down in body into galactose&glucose) free diet.Lactose is the sugar in human and cows milk.So these babies are given soybean milk etc.
