Many possibilities.: Trouble with urination can be grouped into disorders of the bladder's ability to expel urine or obstruction of the outflow tract. Bladder problems include muscular disorders, diverticuli, diabetes, & neurologic problems. The most common cause of obstruction in men is an enlarged prostate, but strictures and blockage by stones can occur. If you're having difficulty, i recommend you see a urologist.

Excessive fluid : To get out of bed at night one or two times to urinate is normal especially for senior. If you drink plenty of fluid before you retire to bed, natuarlly you will have to get up at night to urinate. If you have to get up 3-4 times at night every time regardless of your fluid intake, then you should see a gynecologist or urologist to have a proper evaluation.

Nocturia: Nocturia as a primary concern can be from multiple etiologies. Some of the most common include cardiovascular dysfunction (i.e. If you've had a heart attack), drinking too much in the evening, insomnia and overatice bladder (which doesn't bother you during the day), just to name a couple. You should try altering your fluid intake in the evenings and take all "water pills" in the morning.

POST-VOID DRIBBLING: This is a common complaint in the older males and is due to overactive bladder and prostate growth. It can ofter be relieved with timed voiding and sitting to void.

Possible BPH: Enlargement of the prostate results in some men having progressive urinary problems as they age.  The symptoms usually start slowly and included hesitancy as you describe, start/stop flow, straining to pee and a sensation of incomplete emptying.  Nighttime peeing may increase, as may an urgent need to go.
