For example - metabolic syndrome - a result of excess carbs - leading to Insulin resistance - high triglycerides - then finally htn, cvd and dm. So you could make the case that htn, CAD & dm are metabolic diseases. In fact, you could make the case that all diseases have a metabolic origin & a metabolic rx.

so there is metabolic alkalosis due to volume depletion and potassium loss
in this case taking pedialyte should not hurt but is poorly absorbed
