If heat ; rest do not resolve in a week or so see a doctor.  Massage is oft helpful. This can be a true &quot;pain in the neck&quot;.

In order for it to go away, spine needs to be realigned, and the muscles need to relax. Sometimes heat helps that or muscle relaxants or yoga etc.
