Sure.: Avoid contact with others hair; do not share clothing--especially hats, scarves, hair bows. Do not share combs or brushes. Do not lie on beds, pillows, carpets or stuffed toys of those with head lice. Wash clothes, bed linens, etc with hot water (at least 130*f) & use the high heat drying cycle.  Prophylactic treatment  with otc or prescription medications can also be prudent for head lice control.

Lice begets lice: It was once famously said, "Lice begets lice." There is no other source of lice than another louse. We don't have an answer to the louse or egg question, so we don't know which came first. A person has to get a louse or an egg that hatches into a louse, in order to get infested. A louse can be on furniture, hair brushes, or clothing, but it most likely jumps from one person's hair to another's.

Yes: Assuming you have been treated for the lice body lotions or cortisine creams and aalamine lotions all help once treated the itching will subside precription meds help as well.

Lice treatment: Over the counter products for lice treatments are available, but can be toxic.  Some families have been successful smothering the lice with Cetaphil cleanser applied to dried hair, then dried with a hair dryer and washed the next day.  Reinfestation will occur if nits are not completely removed and bedding/clothing/brushes are not treated.  Lice are transmitted from one to another by close contact

Many things: poison ivy and scabies are just two examples of conditions causing severe itching.  there are many other things you can come in contact with that will cause itching.
