PIGMENTATION: I use eldoquin or hydroquinon 4 percent or the brand name lustra (hydroquinone) - af applied twice a day. Good luck!  if not succesful please see a dermatologist.The steroid cream we use for eczema if used for a long time will cause hypopigmentation.

Skin rash: Eczema "the itch that rashes" is actually caused by a defect in the skin.  An allergy or irritant makes the skin itchy & then scratching the skin causes the rash.  Removal of allergens & irritants plus moisturizers are the mainstay of treatment.  Mild topical steroids are often used to treat the more severe areas.  An allergist may be of help in finding out the "aggravating" agents.

Multiple modalities!: Eczema is treated in a few ways. The mainstay of treatment is usually either topical steroid creams or immunomodulaters. Keep in mind though that eczema is a chronic, recurring condition so there truly isnt a cure,  but there are methods to keep it under control. Using mild soaps like dove, and thick moisturizing creams daily, like eucerin or cetaphil is recommended. Antihist used for itch control.

Eczema: Eczema is not an allergy. It is a genetic trait usually associated with dry skin. Individuals with this, and their relatives, also have a high frequency of asthma and rhinitis- sinusitis. Allergy tests should be avoided because of false results. Food is almost never a factor. Antihistamines are not useful. Dermatologists can make a huge difference. Allergists are not  for eczema.

Many sources: Dry skin is the most common cause, especially in the winter months.  Contact allergy, infection, medications, systemic inflammation, stress are all other possibilities.
