Excellent question..: ...Meaning, we don't really know the answer. There are many different kinds of eczema, and probably many different causes; or more precisely, there are probably many different skin conditions that are collectively called "eczema" because they all look similar. Its distribution varies with the cause; and the exact mechanism that causes an eczematous rash to occur is not yet known.
