Early symptoms include hearing loss, ringing in the ears, and vertigo. These tumors grow very slowly, and are treated with surgery or with radiation only if hearing is affected.

No.: Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease.  This means that the body is mistakenly making antibodies against it's own tissue.  But it is not related to the pituitary (although you should probably get that worked up).

Depends on type...: There are some medical conditions in which patients can develop small tumors covering areas of their bodies.
An example of one of these is called neurofibromatosis.  In this condition (which is often an inherited / genetic disease), patients can develop innumerable nerve tumors all over their bodies.  This disease can become disfiguring over time.

Preexisting lesion: Presence of pre existing lesions such as multiple cartilage tumors may result with one transforming to chondrosarcoma.  The closer to the pelvis the greater the incidence.  Other bone lesions when enlarging such as dysplasias or giant cell tumors as preexisting lesions may result in malignant transformation.

Depending on the site of origin, causes are different.
