Avoid these: If you suspect food allergy, or if foods cause skin rash, hives, or itching within 2 hours of ingestion (especially if this occurs consistently); then that food should be strictly avoided.  See an allergist to confirm and/or characterize the nature of the allergy.  Dust allergy is interestingly associated with certain food allergies.

Not usually: Allergic disease of the upper respiratory tract does not usually produce persistent lightheadedness for 5 years.  I am surprised that you have not consulted a physician.  I agree that a neurologist would be a good idea but there are many medical conditions that could cause light headedness, such as low blood pressure, low blood sugar, low thyroid function.  You need a good medical workup.

Yes: Allergies can cause chronic coughing, but a doctor will evaluate to look for other causes. Asthma (some people cough but don't wheeze), gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), allergic rhinitis (allergies in nose), non-allergic rhinitis (runny nose with negative allergy tests), TB (tuberculosis infection), throat cancer, lung cancer, sinusitis, drug side effects, etc... Can all cause chronic cough.

Adult onset: Allergies can begin at any age even as adults. Seasonal allergies are due to pollens and/or molds. Year round allergies are due to dust mites, animals and indoor mold. Food allergies can also start as adults.

Depends: people differ in the degree of severity of allergic reaction, from just oral pruritus or no reaction, to florid anaphylactic shock to the same agent, in case of ingested agents, as for inhalants, from no reaction to severe asthma attack or even anaphylactic shock, injectables can have the same ingested agents, hope that answers the long- standing question

Absolutely!: Sinus fluid often drains down the back of your throat, causing a cough reflex. This is fairly common.  If you have known allergies and aren't having fever or green/bloody drainage, it's really not a problem.

They may: There are many ways to cause distress.  First, go see your doctor.  Make sure nothing else is causing this.  Then try an elimination diet for 30 days, adding foods back one at a time (every 5 days), watch for reactions.You may have outright allergies or food intolerances.  Both can cause distress.  Meanwhile try dgl (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) before each meal to start to heal the stomach lining.

Yes: If you are referring to anti-histamines - yes, abdominal pain is a potential side effect. But there are numerous other reasons for developing abdominal pain - other medications as well as several different medical conditions.

Yes: New onset allergic rhinitis can occur at any age. Cat allergy can occur 2-20 years after exposure to cats.  A person can tolerate penicillin for many years and all of a sudden, have a reaction.  While food allergies are more common in childhood, even adults can develop allergies to foods they have tolerated many times.  Unfortunately, the exact reason this happens is not clear.
