Not exactly: Stomach cancer and esophageal cancers are different. But a stomach cancer sometimes can be located right near the esophagus too. The type of cancer cells can be similar in both cancers, but esophagus cancer calls can also be a different type. They are generally treated differently with chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and would need different type of surgery too.

Make sure that you are not anemic( low Hb level). Also some chemo drugs can cause peripheral neuropathy. Tumor can also get to the brain although it is uncommon with this type of Cancer.

Chiefly, alcoholism causes liver damage, disruptions in glucose metabolism and many changes in the brain. Intestinal metaplasi: Depends on type of metaplasia, also if  H pylori  positive ( please get checked and treated) Metaplasia can be reversed with eradication of H pylori and reduction of risk factors-high salt intake, alcohol, smoking, bile acid reflux as may  adding Vit C antioxidants to diet.  . http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1773527/.  From 0.1% to 0.9% ( 1/1000  to 9/1000) progress.

Blood test may be: normal. Blood tests usually do not detect cancers. Secondary effects of cancer may show in a blood test, such as anemia. A normal regular blood tests does not rule out cancer and an abnormal test does not mean cancer. Each cancer has its own diagnostic tests, and most require a biopsy reading by a pathologist.

Bleak: Esophagus cancer does have a survival/cure rate but only when it is localised to the esophagus and treated aggressive at that time. Once it spreads outside into the abdomen or liver, then it is far advanced and rarely curable. It looks like your brother has very late stage disease  now, so it is unlikely that he has much time left especailly if has already gone through the regular treatments..
