Yes: I take it that you had a vaccination with menactra, or the Meningococcal vaccine?  You can apply a warm or cool pack to the injection site for comfort.  This will not affect the efficacy of the vaccine.

Vaccination: Yes, one can have allergic reactions, infection, bleeds into tissues, and other inflammatory reactions to vaccines like "meningitis shots", but severe reactions are unusual.  If this persists beyond 24-48 hours see a doctor.

Kids ages 11 - 18: 2 doses of menigitis shots (meningococcal conjugate vccine mcv4) are recommended for kids 11 - 18, with the 1st at ages 11 or 12, and a booster at 16.  If 1st is between 13 & 15, the booster shot is given between 16 and 18.  If the first dose is given after the 16th birthday, a booster is not currently recommended.  Hiv youth should get 3 shots: 2 doses, 2 months apart at 11 or 12, and 3rd at 16.

Meningitis vaccine: The current meningococcal meningitis vaccine is to be boosted at 5 years from the first, or upon leaving for college or military if you are living in a dorm or barracks - whichever comes first. So if you get first dose as recommended at age 11, second dose age 16. If first dose was at 15, then get another one already as you leave for college at age 17-18, even if it hasn&#x27;t been 5 years.
