Yes: The combination of vicodin (narcotic pain med) and lorazepam (sedative hypnotic) will have additive effects of sedation and sleepiness.  But if you're tolerating one of them, the other will probably be ok.  Just be cautious about driving or other activities that require judgement.  Vicodin typically lasts 3-5 hours, so it's mostly out of your system anyhow.

Sedatives: They are never great to take together. They decrease your respirations and can lead to problems with breathing. If absolutely necessary separate them as far as possible.

i threw my back out and was prescribed norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) 5/325 but it gives me anxiety. i also get prescribed lorazepam 1mg. can i take both?

Technically: I'd suggest taking 1/4 tablet  (0.25 mg) of the lorazepam only if you absolutely need to ... This should help the anxiety.  These 2 medications do interact negatively and that might cause hypotension, respiratory depression, Motor functions to slow and vasodilation. If you experience any of these alarming symptoms - head to the ER.

A : A ua (urinalysis) does not screen for drugs. A test called a urine drug screen is specific for certain drugs, and if done would likely be positive for opiates (norco) and benzodiazepines (lorazepam).

: There appears to be no significant drug-drug interaction, but both can cause drowsiness and sedation, and together the side effect could be magnified.  This could compromise safe driving, activities at heights, and use of power equipment.  Discuss all of this with the prescribing physician.
