Xarelto: You may take xarelto and citurcel powder as necessary. A diet change with more fiber may help in reducing the need for daily citrucel.

: These can certainly be taken back-to-back.  Be sure to drink plenty of water, at least two cups after the dose, to prevent development of a solid plug.

Citrucel: I view citrucel as a bowel conditioner rather than a true laxative. Doubling the dose would have no adverse or toxic effects other than possible abdominal cramps, large stools or somewhat overactive bowels because of its fiber content. Your pharmacist can be helpful in answering any questions about your medications or supplements.

: Any of these can help regulate bowel function if you have irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, etc. Different persons have different responses to each of them. Discuss options with your doctor; or try them all at different times. Good luck.

IBS: If you have IBS and tolerate fiber supplements well you should be able to continue methylcellulose as a daily maintenance supplement. Metamucil is also helpful in many patients with either constipation or diarrhea prone IBS. A gastroenterologist can evaluate and advise you best if you have further concerns.

:  Yes, it is safe in general. The instruction is just to make sure you are evaluated by a doctor for ruling out some uncommon causes of constipation such as colon lesion such as colonic tumor, neurologic condition or even severe fecal impaction, etc. Remember, high fiber intake has to go along with high fluid intake when treating constipation.
