If you are having problems initiating your urinary stream, I would recommend that a physician manually examine your prostate gland.  You may want to see a urology specialist, if you do not feel that you received a complete urinary evaluation of your problem.

Cortisone cream help: I have performed many thousands of catheterisations for women. I have found that many young women (and men) complain of discomfort for some time, it is not due to infection or trauma which lasts this long. It is combinations of factors, local hypersensitivity is the main factor in my opinion. If you wish to try over the counter treatment , Allegra (fexofenadine) tab and cortisone cream  for 7 days.

Absolutely: Urine samples taken at home should be immediately refrigerated (& labled) to prevent false levels for bacteria counts. If you can transport the specimen in a cooler chest with ice packs, that will help, too.
