Avoid further injury: and too much running can predispose to early arthritis. However does not mean you do not exercise. other wise no way to prevent arthritis that comes naturally with age. weight gain is actually a bigger risk factor .

Typically no: If the bone spur is compressing a nerve in the neck or back or limits shoulder motion for example the answer could be yes. However bone spur removal is not usually a good answer, since they can returns even after being removed. A better answer to your question could be given if we knew where the bone spur is located.

Arthritic joints: Arthritis in some form is common. Bumps on the distal joints near the nails are called Hebreden's nodes and the ones near the pip or middle joints, Bouchard's nodes. The bumps cannot generally be removed, they are part of the joint or small bone spurs and removal is ineffective. Dysfunctional joints can be de-innervated, fused or replaced, generally these method​s work well if  properly indicated

See below: Oral anti-inflammatory agents are still the beat pain reliever for osteoarthritis,  with moderation on activity.  Streching exercises can help, physical therapy is a good adjuct to meds. Theu can do us treatment,  sometimes tens ,  intraarticular injection can be done by your dr if conservative management is not enough. Good luck.
