Herpes simplex: No, although tissue degeneration in any form of lesion may create an odor, there is nothing characteristic about the smell of herpetic lesions.

Herpes: If you have a suspicious lesion you get it examined at the doctors office. And, all of us in the world must know our herpes status with a blood test!
