i have anxiety. my main symptom is a jittery feeling that's really annoying and makes me want to go crazy. i am already on medicines but they aren't working. are there any home remedies for anxiety?

What is "normal"?: What kind of doc says you are crazy? Have you talked with a psychiatrist or psychologist? Many people, especially in your age group, suffer a combination of ADHD and obsessive thinking. I have found hypnosis a helpful skill in mediating this condition. Mindful meditation can also help. There are similarities between the two. They help you take control of your thoughts.

Getting assistancce: No need to fret, anxiety problems are quite common and treatable.  There is lots of help. If one has overwhelming anxiety, it is good to start with your family doc to rule out common medical contributors/causes. Therapy?: Have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as anxiety or depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room.

No: You do not need to have an anxiety disorder for other people to consider you different.  Many people consider someone else crazy or weird without any connection to an anxiety disorder, or any other disorder.

how long does it take to get addicted to xanax? been taking .25-.5mg daily for almost 2 weeks. anxiety has been crazy for me.

Typically 1 month: After a month of regular use of Xanax your body can become dependent on it physically.  The psychological dependence can be very strong with Xanax as well.  The goal with Xanax should be to use it as a band-aid rather than as a cure.  It works well for anxiety but should only be used for really severe anxiety, short-term and not daily.  Talk with a doctor about things to start long term.

Generalized anxiety: Ths is more like a statement than a question.  It certainly sounds like generalized anxeity.  Are you on prescriptions medication or street drugs that could be causing this (meth,stimulants)?  Otherwise, I'd first try non addictive medication for anxiety which could include propranolol (if no history of heart rhythm problems, hypotension (low blood pressure), syncope (fainting) or slow pulse.

Not uncommon: Anxiety attacks are common, and symptoms can mimic other physical conditions.  Anxiety is itself a medical condition!  first step is to see your family doctor for a thorough workup to be sure all is physically well.  Then, psychiatrists are well trained to help you prevent anxiety attack with meds. Also,  psychologists can help you deal with & diminish them through skills learned in talk therapy.

are there any medicines that are good for anxiety that is not anti-depressants? i'm not crazy about all side effects that go along with these not to mention the withdrawals when stopping. the withdrawal from the beta-blocker has been the worst?

: I assume you tapered the BB over some time.  I usually recommend cutting dose in 1/2 for 1-2 weeks and then in 1/2 again for 2 weeks etc. Can be tricky and everyone is different.  You body is talking to you.  Please listen and take good notes. Then share with your Dr. The two of you should be able to decide what the problem is or what is the next step to find out.
