how long will a hematoma last and hurt? i've had it for 2 wks. it's on lower leg. could it be blood clot. no swelling. just bruised feeling.

LE hematoma: if a skin deep hematoma you can see the " black and blue mark", if  in muscle  diagnosed by ultrasound. Can  take up to a month or so depending on size. There are also bone bruises when the bone marrow gets  edema, muscle sprains,  and there are clots which can be quite dangerous as part can dislodge &amp;move elsewhere like the lung. Please F/U w/doc/ER today may need sonongram

No: A hematoma occurs when blood leaks out of the blood vessel that was punctured. There is a pool of blood in the adjacent tissues and, since blood is irritating, it hurts. Because of your hx, I'm guessing you might be on an anticoagulant ("blood thinner")? If so, it predisposes you to a hematoma. Hematomas hurt but get better on their own. There's no risk of the clot "traveling" anywhere.

Maybe: At times it can, but it may have no symptoms. Check with your doctor is you are prone to these in your past of family.

Most likely: Increased BP a result of discomfort ; pain.

Can you walk?: If you have no underlying illness and can walk about, you are not likely to get a blood clot.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.  Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless.
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

i think i have a bruise on my leg. how do i tell the difference between a blood clot and a bruise?

Clots are deeper: A bruise you can see on the skin. A clot, especially a significant one is in the deep veins and is not visible.

Bruise: spontaneous bruising is very common and is not usually related to blood clots. It should disappear but if you get more you should let your doctor have a look at them

i have a severe knee hematoma from a kayak crashing on knee 2 weeks ago.. it was size of cantoloupe. some blood was drained. large n painful still.

See a doctor: If you have had a knee trauma and it is still swollen and sore you should have plain films and an MRI to rule out a serious injury such as a fracture or internal derangement of the knee like a ligament or meniscus tear. If you have had it drained and it is still not right, you need to go back for re-evaluation.
