U R Compromised: Strep is in your mouth all of the time. It is an opportunistic bacteria and you may have been compromised. Gargle with listerine without alcohol several times per day. Use a saline nose spray. If not better in a few days see your doctor.

why does one get strep throat after mono?

Friends, family, etc: One gets strep throat AFTER mononucleosis for the same reason one gets strep BEFORE mono... friends, family, coworkers, etc... Strep is caused by a bacteria, transmitted by close contact such as between family members. Mono is caused by a virus, also transmitted by close contact. Both are common human conditions, which means a person can get one before the other or both at the same time.

No problem: The germ of strep throat thrives in the environment of your throat where it has access to nutrients and moisture. It will not survive in the chemical rich environment of your deodorant. You will not catch strep from the deodorant..

Not always Strep: I recommend you go get strep test or even strep culture again as white spots do not indicate strep. Viral infection can present with white spots also.

Small: Adults are less likely to contract strep. If your pg daughter gets a fever or esore throat, she should se her md.

Unlikely..but: Many adults have already had mono as a kid when it is often a mild "virus" that many ignore. They will always have immunity &amp; show some blood signs they had it. By the mid teens &amp; into adulthood it tends to trigger significant tonsil swelling ( often worse than strep), malaise, lethargy &amp;  keep them out of operation for 3 weeks.
