Unlikely: Sexually transmitted disease, means the disease is transmitted through sex, although, theorically if you touch an active lesion from someone with herpes and then you touch your genital , there is a possibility to acquire the virus this way but i doubt anyone ever been infected this way.

Termanology: The category of "sexually transmitted disease" is just a group of problems that can pass sexually. The germs involved are not limited to that mode of transmission. Hepatitis B can transmit sexually or through a tainted needle, or contact with blood of an infected person.The same goes for AIDS, syphilis and many other diseases. Some are less likely to pass through non sexual means.

Intercourse only: My summary/title says it all:  There is little or no risk of trichomonas without an uncovered penis (i.e. no condom) in the vagina.

: It is called a STD for a reason, it is passed during sexual activity. I can think of no STD that would transfer in the manner you describe.

: It seems unlikely the thongs had been worn before selling, but even if that happened and even without laundering, there would be little or no risk from herpes, which is rarely if ever transmitted by shared clothing. With washing, the chance of such infection for sure is zero. This is nothing to be worried about.

Unlikely: Most of the germs we consider a cause of STI's will not live for any extended period outside of moist environment provided by the body.Some STD germs could end up on such surfaces, but once they dry out they die.
