Not really: Shingles is a pattern illness where the virus reactivates from its hibernation spot in the nerves. More than 90% of adults who think they never had Cpx show positive blood evidence.Some even get Cpx in the womb, and survive with no knowledge it ever happened.A blood test can show someone had it, if that is the question.

Not likely: I can think of only one sceinerio that could occur.If your mother had chickenpox during pregnancy, it could have passed to you and remained in hibernation many years and come out as shingles.Most (90%) of adults who think they never had cpx have blood evidence that they did.If you truly never did, you should get the vaccine, it is a nasty disease in adults with occasionally fatal outcome.

Yes: Chicken pox and shingles are due to the same virus (the zoster virus). If a child has no good immunity to the zoster virus (never caught chicken pox, is immunosuppressed, never got the vaccine, or got the vaccine but did not make enough antibodies) then he can get a case of chicken pox from the virus in the open skin lesions of the shingles patient.

Much much less: The advent of chickenpox vaccines in 1995 and more recently zostervax have reduced the incidence of zoster by about 90% since then.
The vaccines are still live-virus, but weakened viruses and so less likely to cause disease later on such as zoster...But we can't tell yet. So, odds are that you are about 90% less likely to get shingles with vaccines..Maybe more .

Yes & no: If you are one of the few people in the world that never had chicken pox (proven by blood test) and never got the vaccine, you will never get shingles. However, you may have had it & never knew it (positive blood test) or got the vaccine. In both situations you can get shingles.

Backwards issue: You don't get shingles unless you had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine in the past. Shingles is evidence that the immunity you developed to chickenpox was weakening & the germ came out of it's hiding place in your body in the form of a shingles eruption. That new infection will bolster your chickenpox immunity.

Yes  and no: Chickenpox usually precedes shingles by many years or decades. However, chicken pox can be very mild, and not diagnosed, or the illness may be forgotten.  An infection with chicken pox virus, whether a classical illness with many lesions, or a few lesions, always  precedes shingles.  A  shingles vaccine or adults over 50 or 60 years, reduces the severity and incidence  of shingles.
