: I consider this an unlikely way to get a STD. The germs involved generally travel in the secretions or mucus involved in the sexual activity. They do not survive long outside their supportive environment on fingers/objects. That said, whatever is on the fingers might cause an infection.

No. In my 40 years in the STD business, and working in a public STD clinic with 10-15,000 patient visits a year, I have never seen or heard of a patient who was infected by hand-genital contact. Don't worry about it.

Possible but unusual: If the partner you give a handjob to has herpetic lesions or warts, you can get warts and herpes on your hand.  Since these stds are transferred by skin to skin contact, if you touch your privates after without washing your hand, it can transfer as well.
