Accepted Answer

Yes: There is a (theoretical) potential interaction where grapefruit increases drug levels and possible toxicity.  In my personal experience, it is a non issue.

i take a high dose taper of prednisone (70mg, 60, 50,40 etc for 8 days) about 4x/yr for ra flares x 30 yrs now prescribed crestor 5mg/day are these compatible while on taper? and can i eat a grapefruit in the a.m. if i take crestor at night?

: You can take prednisone and taper it with Crestor and you can also have grapefruit with both Crestor and prednisone. They are all compatible with each other.

Accepted Answer

Yes you can: Statin (short for a class cholesterol drug with generic/medical name ending with statin such as Atorvastatin (lipitor) or Simvastatin (zocor) or Rosuvastatin (crestor).  Zocor (simvastatin) has significant interaction with grapefruit/juice but fortunately Crestor should be fine. So, drink on. Eat well, exercise regularly, and follow-up wit doc for periodic lab testing/monitoring. Good luck.

total cholesterol 107, ldl 52, triglycerides 63, hdl 49. i exercise, eat clean, and take 10 mg crestor (rosuvastatin). can't seem to move hdl higher. suggestions?

"Good" Cholesterol: Your cholesterol levels are optimal. Goal HDL levels for the general population is &gt;40. A mediterranian style diet and cardiovascular exercise are non-pharmacotherapeutic ways to elevate your hdl. You can also use Niacin as an adjunct, but please speak with your primary care physician.

Impossible: There is no generic medication for Crestor (rosuvastatin) at this time as the medication is still under patent.   The generic name for Crestor (rosuvastatin) is Rosuvastatin and you may be on that med, but it is not generic (and won't be for years).   Generic statins currently available are pravastatin, simvastatin, atorvastatin, and lovastatin.  All statins have the same action, but some may be better for some people.

: Crestor or rosuvastatin can be taken at any time of the day with or without food, there are other statins, somewhat older that are best to be taken at night.

how long do it take to see results when taking crestor  10mg   every day?

Accepted Answer

Right away, but...: The medication starts working right away, but it takes time for benefits to reach a level that one can detect on blood tests. Maybe 2-4 weeks after starting the drug, lab results will show better numbers. However, doctors usually wait 3 months before testing, to let the drug and one's body have time to reach a new balance and hit a steady level of improved cholesterol numbers.

Quickly: Crestor and other statins lower child quickly and results can be seen in a couple of weeks.  Conversely missing 2-3 doses allows cholesterol to shoot back up.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes you can stop.  My question is why?  Have you had an adverse reaction?  Do you not like the "concept" of taking a statin?  I would much prefer that my patients schedule an appointment to talk about it before stopping it.   That way i can explain why I have prescribed and what the benefits are and discuss your concerns with you.  The physician-patient relationship should ideally be a partnership.

Accepted Answer

One is not related.: Taking the Crestor (rosuvastatin) for a number of years is not the cause of your diabetes.  However, having high cholesterol and diabetes is often very common.  Keeping your cholesterol and diabetes well controlled is key to a happy long life.  Both things need close management and good control.
