Yes: Drinking water is fine unless directed specifically by your physician to avoid it.  Fasting lab is looking for blood sugar and cholesterol which would be affected by coffee, food, and milk.  I usually recommend to my patients to take their routine meds even when fasting except for medications that would affect the blood sugar.

Yes, : Yes, black coffee or black tea are ok.

High blood sugar tes: Test result probably not altered by not drinking water for a short time.  Double check the fasting blood sugar test and ask for the test that gives blood sugar average over the last three months or so, called HgAc1 to try to rule out diabetes.

Terry?: I am not sure what terry nails are, but you could be describing some symptoms of low thyroid. I recommend a blood test to rule this out.

Fasting: Yes. Of course. Every primary care specialist will advise you to avoid calories when you are fasting. So water and black coffee are the two things that are allowed. Every office I have worked at tells their patients this when they are told to fast prior to coming in for these lab tests.

Watch it: Your physician may repeat this, or may start a workup if the SGOT/AST is high as well.
